Sermon Notes

“Now therefore fear the Lord and serve him in sincerity and in faithfulness.  Put away the gods that your fathers served beyond the River and in Egypt, and serve the Lord.  And if it is evil in your eyes to serve the Lord, choose this day whom you will serve, whether the gods your father served in the region beyond the River, or the gods of the Amorites in whose land you dwell.  But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord. Then the people answered, “Far be it from us that we should forsake the Lord to serve other gods.  For it is the Lord our God who brought us and our fathers up from the land of Egypt, out of the house of slavery, and who did those great signs in our sight and preserved us in all the way that we went, and among all the peoples through whom we passed.  And the Lord drove before us all the peoples, the Amorites who lived in the land.  Therefore we will serve the Lord, for he is our God.”

Joshua 24:14-18

“And all that generation also were gathered to their fathers.  And there arose another generation after them who did not know the Lord or the work he had done for Israel.  And the people of Israel did what was evil in the sight of the Lord and served the Baals.  And they abandoned the Lord, the God of their fathers, who had brought them out of the land of Egypt.  They went after other gods, from among the gods of the peoples who were around them and bowed down to them.  And they provoked the Lord to anger.”

Judges 2:10-12

“God doesn’t have grandchildren.  He only has sons and daughters.  This means if the Church is not reaching the next generation, we’re always one generation away from extinction.” – Dr. Chip Bennet

Family Discipleship Cannot Happen Without First Loving God.

“We cannot expect our children to rise above our example.  If my kids don’t see me spending time in God’s Word, they probably won’t.  If they see me using inappropriate language or involved in “course jesting”, they will probably follow suit.  If they see me scream at their mother and treat her with contempt, they will probably disrespect her as well.  We can try to teach them to do as we say, not as we do, but our words can only go so far when they are contradicted by our actions.” – Voddie Baucham

We Have To Make Church A Priority.

“If I teach my son to keep his eye on the ball but fail to teach him to keep his eyes on Christ, I have failed as a father. – Voddie Baucham

Family Discipleship Is Not A Set Time.  It Is All The Time.

“You shall love the Lord your God will all your heart and with all your soul and with all your might.  And these words that I command you today shall be on your heart.  You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise. “

Deuteronomy 6:5-7
